Council President Marci Collier Overstreet
City Council President
Atlanta City Council
Marci Collier Overstreet is a lifelong public servant and Southwest Atlanta native. She currently serves as Atlanta City Council President, following her tenure representing the citizens of District 11. A product of the Atlanta Public Schools system, Marci graduated from Benjamin E. Mays High School in 1983. She spent her youth immersed in the culture and diversity of Southwest Atlanta, which inspired her commitment to public service from a young age. Growing up, she saw the good, the bad, and—most importantly—the potential for what Atlanta could become.
It was that belief in people and possibility that set her on a path of leadership and advocacy. Marci earned her Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Georgia State University, with a minor in Management, helping her develop a strong voice and a thoughtful, people-centered leadership style. Armed with education and determination, she has served in many roles, including author, entrepreneur, host, and business professional.
While she spent years in the corporate arena, Marci’s passion has always been people. That passion is reflected in her extensive community service, including direct involvement in local initiatives and Parent Teacher Student Associations (PTSA), where she worked to spur positive change for residents of all ages. Her service to District 11 provided a strong foundation for her broader citywide leadership. As Atlanta City Council President, Marci plays a central role in guiding the legislative direction of the City of Atlanta. She presides over Council meetings, helps set the legislative agenda, appoints committee leadership, and works to build consensus among Council members to ensure effective governance. In this role, she serves as a key liaison between the City Council, the Mayor’s Office, and Atlanta’s residents—advancing policies that reflect community priorities while upholding transparency, accountability, and collaboration.
Marci is focused on supporting safe neighborhoods, sustainable economic development, and equitable opportunities across the city. She continues to advocate for strategic investments in technology, innovative public safety strategies, and responsible stewardship of public resources.
Marci is deeply appreciative of the opportunity to serve. While proud of what has been accomplished, she remains focused on the work ahead—strengthening trust in local government and helping shape a stronger, more inclusive Atlanta for generations to come.
