City of Atlanta Advisory Roundtable with Councilmember Wayne Martin, District 11, Atlanta City Council

After graduating from D.M. Therrell High School in Southwest Atlanta, Wayne followed in the footsteps of his mentor, former Atlanta Mayor Maynard Jackson, and graduated from Morehouse College with his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science. He also holds a Master of Public Administration Degree from Arkansas State University.

Wayne began his professional career in public service, and he previously served as chief of staff for Atlanta City Council Post 2, executive director of the Atlanta Board of Education and as government affairs director for the Atlanta Housing Authority. He also held several executive roles in the private sector, where he served as vice president of government affairs for Morehouse School of Medicine, regional director of government affairs for Starbucks Coffee Company and senior manager of external affairs for Comcast Cable Company. Wayne presently leads a nonprofit faith-based organization and serves as Campus Pastor of Spirit and Truth Church Atlanta.

Civically, Wayne has served on the boards of the Atlanta Fire Foundation, Mercy Housing Southeast, Quest Community Housing, Buckhead Christian Ministries, the Morris Brown College Foundation and the HBCYouth Foundation. He is an alumnus of LEAD Atlanta and Leadership Georgia, and he holds active memberships in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and the 100 Black Men of Atlanta, Inc.

It is Wayne’s passion to help young people reach their dreams, and he gives much of his time mentoring Atlanta Public Schools students, youth at his church and college students from the Atlanta University Center.
