Peter Aman
Chief Strategy Officer
City of Atlanta
Peter Aman serves as the Chief Strategy Officer, a position newly created in May 2024, reporting directly to Mayor Andre Dickens. Aman is responsible for supporting the Mayor and the Mayor's Senior Team in developing and executing major initiatives to improve the functioning of the City of Atlanta government and the quality of life of its residents and visitors. His initial focus areas include augmenting the efforts to improve the RM Clayton sewage treatment plant and accelerating the pace of the Moving Atlanta Forward Program.
Prior to this role, Aman served as the first Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of the Atlanta Police Department, having assumed that role in August of 2022 as part of the most significant reorganization of the Department in decades, led by Chief Schierbaum. At that time, operations from several divisions were combined under the CAO, and the Chief Administrative Office oversaw a variety of functions, including Strategic Planning, Crime Analysis, Finance, Technology, Recruiting, linkages to City HR, the Real Time Crime Center, E911/Communications, Code Enforcement, License and Permits, Facilities, Fleet, Records, Logistics, and various other administrative units.
Aman began his career in 1988 by joining the global consulting firm Bain & Company after graduating from Duke University. Aman received an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania (Wharton School of Business) in 1994 and moved to Atlanta in 1996 as a founding member of Bain & Company’s Atlanta Office.
Aman advanced at Bain from Associate Consultant to Senior Partner and led client engagements with large enterprises on such topics as corporate strategy, growth, mergers and acquisitions, operational effectiveness, customer service improvement, high-performing organizations and restructuring, and post-merger integration, among other topics. Aman was a leader in the Industrial Goods and Services and Media practices at Bain, in addition to working in other sectors.
In 2001 Aman spearheaded Bain’s offer of pro bono consulting services to then-Mayor Shirley Franklin. Over the subsequent 15 years, Aman led the work of many Bain teams for the City of Atlanta (all pro bono) and assisted the city across multiple strategic and operational improvement efforts. In 2004 Aman supported Mayor Franklin’s creation of the Atlanta Committee for Progress (ACP) and sat on and supported that Board for over a decade. Aman was also a founding board member of Partners for Home (a coordination and service agency for the unsheltered), The Atlanta Police Foundation, and The Westside Future Fund. Additionally, Aman served on the Boards of The Woodruff Arts Center, The Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, and several other Atlanta non-profits.
In addition to supporting the city as an external advisor and civically involved citizen, Aman served as the City's Chief Operating Officer (COO) in 2010 and 2011, overseeing all City Operating Departments and reporting to the Mayor. Aman also was a candidate for Mayor of Atlanta in 2016 and 2017. After the election, Aman was a Partner with EY-Parthenon and led the firm's Advanced Manufacturing and Mobility sector for Strategy & Transactions work until July 2022.
