Tommy Allegood was raised in Atlanta, GA. Tommy is a 1970 graduate of Gordon Military College and served as a cadet in the ROTC program, and is a 1972 graduate of the University of Georgia. When Tommy graduated, he began a management career with Lowe’s Companies which has always kept him in the building and development field. His leadership skills have enabled him to bring people together to accomplish goals and objectives as a team.
Tommy was elected to the Acworth city council in 2000 and then elected as Mayor in 2002. He is serving in his fifth unopposed term as Mayor where the city has since doubled in population to 24,000 residents. During his first days as Mayor, Tommy developed a “Quality of Life” campaign that has made Acworth the fastest growing city residentially and commercially in Cobb County.
Tommy is a member of NorthStar Church, Acworth Business Association, Cobb County Chamber of Commerce Northwest, PTA Partner at McCall Primary and Acworth Elementary, Partner in Education at Barber Middle School and North Cobb High School, Member of the Calvary Children’s Home Advisory Board, and serves on President’s Advisory Board at Kennesaw State University.
With personal expertise in team building, developing leadership, building and project development … Tommy is very active in the local community. He and wife Carol, a local artist and Signature Member of the Georgia Watercolor Society, have restored and live in a 100+ year old home in Acworth. Together they have four children and seven grandchildren.
Alex Almodovar

Alex Almodóvar is from Puerto Rico and originates from an Air Force Family. Mr. Almodovar began his tenure at the City of Acworth in the City Manager’s Office as the Assistant to the City Manager in March 2019. On August 4th, 2022, Mr. Almodovar was officially appointed as the City’s Development Director responsible for planning, coordinating, recommending, and implementing the strategies, activities, and operations of the City’s Development department.
He currently oversees economic development, planning and zoning, geographic information services, code compliance, and building inspection services for the city leading projects from concept to completion.
Mr. Almodovar earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Sport Management with a concentration in Marketing and a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree from Kennesaw State University. As a student, Mr. Almodovar worked as a Graduate Research Assistant for the Siegel Institute for Leadership, Ethics and Character at Kennesaw State University, as well as the Atlanta Hawks and Atlanta Braves in their Event Marketing and Promotions departments.
Prior to working for the City of Acworth, Mr. Almodovar served in the Community Development Department at the City of Powder Springs for two years as a Special Projects Coordinator for Planning and Development. Mr. Almodovar is a GSWCC Level II Certified Plan Reviewer and a certified planner through the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP).
He is a graduate of the prestigious Leadership Cobb Class of 2023 and was awarded the next generation award by the Cobb Chamber of Commerce in August 2023. Additionally, he serves as the Chair for the Northwest Cobb Chamber Council serving businesses in the Acworth, Kennesaw, and West Cobb communities. Mr. Almodovar is a member of the Georgia Planning Association, the International City/County Manager’s Association, and the Georgia Economic Development Association. In his spare time, Mr. Almodovar enjoys playing sports, traveling, and spending time with family.
