Currently Mayor of the City of Avondale Estates. Elmore serves as a voting member of the Board of Mayor and Commissioners, the city’s governing body of five at large members. As Mayor, Elmore calls and preside over meetings, is the official city spokesman, signs contracts and documents on behalf of the city, and serves as chief policy advocate, all as prescribed by their city charter. Over the last seven years, Avondale Estates has renovated their historic Willis Park, approved and embarked upon the Covington Highway road diet/complete street project, rewritten their zoning code and historic district guidelines, adopted a street grid, recently completed a new two acre town green, adopted a comprehensive stormwater master plan, approved $100 million in mixed use development, and are contemplating another $600 million in mixed use development and public parking.
Elmore has thirty three years of cumulative experience in construction and architecture in a wide range of project types including residential, commercial, hospitality, institutional, industrial, military, and aviation. He has been a licensed architect in Georgia since 1998, and he has lived in Avondale Estates for about 22 years. He lives with his wife, Tamara Shipley. They have three children together. Jonathan has a bachelor’s in architecture from Georgia Institute of Technology. He has a master’s degree in architecture from Clemson University.
