Marty Meeks
Mayor Pro Tem
City of Hampton

Hampton and Henry County roots run deep as Marty's Grandfather, Ed Meeks, operated a gas station and garage on Main Street, known then as US Hwy. 41, for more than 20 years.

After working the usual teenage jobs in west Henry County, he took part in the CETA (Comprehensive Employment and Training Act) Program a dispatcher for Hampton Police Department. The City invested in Marty by sending him to the regional Police Academy to be certified as a Police Officer.  In order to provide for his family, he transitioned into the flooring business as a Tile Contractor.  For 40 years he experienced the ebb and flow of the construction industry before retiring in 2018.

Serving the residents of his hometown is a special privilege for Marty Meeks.  Having been a local business owner and employer for more than forty years, he now helps to support the Hampton community on the City Council, the Berea Cemetery Board, and as an active member of Calvary Baptist Church on Oak St.

Marty, his wife, Linda, and granddaughters, Leah, and Lani, make their home in Hampton together with several members of their large family.  These family members, along with life-long and new friends, afford ample opportunity for insight into the needs of residents.

From yellow stop signs, saw dust butcher shop floors, night watchmen, and less than 1000 residents, Marty has been involved as Hampton transitioned into a city with population approaching 10,000, an excellent Police Department, modern conveniences, and even traffic lights.  The honor to be included with other Council members and local leaders in making decisions that affect Hampton and the surrounding area is not taken lightly.  Please join Marty, the Mayor and Council, and the rest of the city staff by contacting them to make your concerns felt, your wishes known, and your voice heard.
