In November 2018, Vivian Thomas was elected to the District IV seat of the Henry County Board of Commissioners. Although she began her term on January 1, 2019, she has been serving the community in a variety of roles for more than two decades. Vivian is a business owner and entrepreneur and has a passion for turning vision into reality through hard work and determination.
Her vision for District IV and all of Henry County is to build a progressive county thru smart growth and quality developments. She will work to maximize Henry County’s current assets and strategic location to strengthen the county’s infrastructure to attract innovative industries to the community.
A native of Hawkinsville, Georgia, she is a graduate of Georgia State University, where she studied Business. As an engaged community leader, Vivian is always at the forefront of serving her community, and her expansive civic and business involvement includes past board membership with the Stockbridge Downtown Development Authority and served as a Commissioner for the Stockbridge Urban Re-Development Authority. She has also served on the Public Policy Committee of the Atlanta Business League and served as chair of the Family Selection Committee of Clayton County Habitat for Humanity. Vivian was twice honored as one of the One Hundred Women of Influence in Georgia by the Atlanta Business League.
As a former teacher committed to the care and education of children and youth, Vivian has used her business acumen and expertise to benefit professional organizations, state legislators, and the public. As a community leader, Vivian is known for lobbying for increased budgets for education and educating community leaders on the importance of education, from pre-school through college. Vivian will continue to be a resounding voice for the citizens of Henry County.
In her spare time, Vivian Thomas enjoys motivational speaking, cooking and spending time with her family. Through her foundation, she mentors teens and young adults in moving forward to accomplishing their life purpose and personal success. A natural leader, the firstborn of eight, she credits her success and longevity to the values of hard work and determination, which were instilled by her loving parents, Mr. & Mrs. Elmer Thomas. She is a proud mother, grandmother, daughter and sister.
