Sharon Hill
Executive Director
Henry County Development Authority

Sharon K. Hill is the Executive Director of the Henry County Development Authority, where she leads efforts to strengthen the community’s economic well-being by attracting new industries, supporting the growth of existing ones, and fostering job creation through strategic planning, workforce development, marketing, and collaborative partnerships with education and industry. In this role, she serves as a vital liaison between the public and private sectors—connecting industries with resources, advocating for policies that create a favorable business environment, and developing programs that meet both workforce and community needs.

Prior to becoming Executive Director, Sharon served as Manager of Established Industries for the Authority, where she was responsible for business retention and expansion. Just this past year, she successfully secured $530 million dollars in expansion projects, resulting in the creation of nearly 900 new jobs. Her work focused on building a strong business climate by identifying challenges, addressing workforce needs, and ensuring local industries had the tools to thrive.

Sharon’s passion lies in creating opportunities that directly impact Henry County residents. She is committed to attracting industries that provide meaningful, well-paying jobs for high school graduates who want to stay in the community, while also ensuring local workers have access to upskilling programs that prepare them for the jobs of the future.

She also emphasizes the broader benefits of economic development. As a Henry County homeowner herself, Sharon understands how attracting new industries helps sustain local government while keeping property taxes at reasonable levels. Today, the Authority’s $60 million portfolio of local industries contributes to reducing property taxes by at least 13%.

Before joining the Henry County Development Authority, Sharon built a distinguished career in human resources. She served as Director of Human Resources at Southern Crescent Technical College and as Chief People Officer at Aflac. At Aflac, her leadership helped the company achieve national recognition as a “Best Company to Work for in America” for nine consecutive years, in addition to earning accolades as a top employer for women and minorities, and for training and workplace culture. At Southern Crescent, her department earned the Department of Administrative Services Commissioner’s Award for excellence in a statewide HR audit, becoming a model for other state agencies.

A native of Louisiana, Sharon holds a Bachelor of Science in Business and Computer Science from Southern University and A&M College. She is deeply engaged in community service, having served on numerous boards, including Leadership Georgia, Leadership Columbus (where she also chaired), the Advisory Committee for the College of Business at Southern University (chair), and the Georgia State Board for Adult and Technical Education (commissioner). She is also a Diamond Life member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Her leadership and impact have been widely recognized. Sharon has been named to the 100 List of Georgia’s Most Powerful and Influential Women – Corporate America by Women Looking Ahead Magazine, honored in Ebony Magazine’s “Women at the Top,” and received a Certificate of Special Recognition from U.S. Congressman Sanford Bishop.

Despite her many accomplishments, Sharon describes herself as “just a country girl from the bayous of Louisiana” who enjoys college football Saturdays, NFL Sundays, fast cars, and live concerts. Above all, she is most proud of her family: her two sons—Derek, an officer in the U.S. Army, and Darrian, who works in financial services—and her cherished role as “Gi-Gi” to her grandchildren.
