Diana Wheeler
Community Development Director
City of Milton

Diana Wheeler currently serves as the Community Development Director for the City of Milton, Georgia, overseeing the city’s planning, zoning, and development initiatives. She stepped into this role in 2024, bringing a wealth of expertise from her previous leadership positions in the cities of Alpharetta and Peachtree Corners. With over three decades of experience in municipal planning, Wheeler is known for guiding sustainable growth while preserving community character, and she continues to apply that strategic vision in Milton’s ongoing development efforts.

From 2012 to 2024, Wheeler was the founding Community Development Director for the newly incorporated City of Peachtree Corners. In fact, she had the distinction of being Peachtree Corners’ first official employee, tasked with creating the Community Development department from the ground up. Over her 12-year tenure, Wheeler guided the city through its formative years of growth. She spearheaded major initiatives including the establishment of Peachtree Corners’ inaugural City Hall and the development of its first Comprehensive Land Use Plan. Wheeler also led the implementation of the city’s initial zoning laws and code enforcement framework, and she set up critical boards and programs such as the Planning Commission, Downtown Development Authority, and an Arts Council. Under her leadership, Peachtree Corners earned recognition as a certified Green Community and a Tree City USA, reflecting a strong commitment to sustainable, well-planned development.

Before joining Peachtree Corners, Wheeler had a distinguished 18-year tenure as Community Development Director for the City of Alpharetta, Georgia. During Alpharetta’s period of rapid expansion, she managed growth with a carefully planned approach – overseeing the creation of a vibrant downtown development district and ensuring balanced residential, corporate, and retail development. City officials praised her work, crediting Wheeler with safeguarding Alpharetta from haphazard growth and shaping the high quality of life the city enjoys today. Earlier in her career, Wheeler served in community development roles in South Florida, including positions as Community Development Director in Coral Gables and South Miami. She holds a Bachelor of Architecture and a Master’s degree in Architecture and Urban Design from Columbia University, providing a strong educational foundation for her influential career in city planning and development.
