Event Description:
Policy Discussion of the Atlanta Tree Protection Ordinance Rewrite
The Council for Quality Growth will host a policy discussion on the Atlanta Tree Protection Ordinance rewrite on Wednesday, June 5th 8:15-9:15am at Selig Enterprises. The Atlanta Department will release its initial rewrite outline of the tree protection ordinance on Monday, June 3rd. The June Atlanta Advisory Committee meeting will be a premier opportunity to hear first-hand from Project Manager, Elizabeth Johnson and other city officials regarding the proposed changes to the ordinance. Council for Quality Growth members will have the opportunity to provide feedback on any potential impacts on the revised ordinance draft.
The evaluation of the Tree Protection Ordinance is a result of the City of Atlanta's ecological study to develop an Urban Ecology Framework (UEF), a comprehensive nature strategy to improve and accentuate Atlanta's ecological character. Began in May 2018, UEF will identify how ecosystems of habitats can be restored and evaluate the city's current Tree Protection Ordinance, with the city's goal to reach 50% tree canopy through strategic replanting and protection of high-value trees. Currently, the UEF project schedule is to enact a revised Tree Protection Ordinance by August 2019.
It is imperative to participate in this important policy forum to ensure the voice of the development community is heard during the rewrite of the Tree Protection Ordinance. The conference room can only hold 30 people, please register as soon as possible to secure your seat.
